Topic: Service event: "Dialing for Books"
About the Event
This month is something new for the Captial Chapter - a service event at which STC members perform helpful tasks for a nonprofit organization, the Washington Literacy Council. The work is easy - asking supporters to donate unwanted books. NO, you don't have to ask for money. YES, the Council wants your books too. Bring them to the meeting.
Don't forget your business cards!
About the Speaker
The Washington Literacy Council trains volunteers as tutors, then matches them with some of the over 85,000 functionally-illiterate adults in Washington, DC. In time, students gain the skill necessary to read street signs, Metro maps, labels, and forms - a proficiency we take for granted.
