Topic: "Designing and Delivering Technical Writing Courses on the Web"

About the Event

The speakers will explore the challenges of designing and delivering undergraduate instruction in Technical Writing via the Web. They will discuss administrative issues, course design and pedagogy, instructional techniques and challenges, and student reaction to online instruction. In addition, they will show why this growing form of instruction is effective for working adults.

About the Speakers

Jim Gillin, Academic Director of Communication Studies at UMUC and Charles Fisher, Documentation Manager at Datatel, Inc. Mr. Gillin teaches courses in Technical Writing and Writing for Managers and is currently teaching the latter via the Web. His background includes a combination of academic and consulting experience and he has an MA in English. Mr. Fisher has taught courses in software documentation and technical writing for the UMUC since January 1997. He currently manages the STC's International Student Technical Writing Competition and has an MA in Professional Writing.
