About the Event

Our instructor will conduct two hands-on workshops focused on formatting content on web pages. The morning workshop will explore HTML techniques for presenting text and images in a table format and the afternoon workshop will provide an overview of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

The workshops will focus on HTML and CSS coding (rather than using HTML editors) and participants will have sample documents to take with them.

In the HTML session, participants will learn how to:

  • Create and work with tables for page layouts (adding links, images, width and height measurements and nested tables)

In the CSS session, participants will:

  • Become familiar with the basics of CSS including embedded styles, inline styles, and external style sheets
  • Learn how to work with fonts and text control in CSS

Target audience

If you are interested in learning strategies for formatting content on the web and are familiar with the basics of HTML, this seminar is for you.

About the instructor

Kathy Gillen is the owner of a firm that provides word processing and desktop/electronic publishing services. She has 16 years experience in print document creation, 7 years of web development experience and 8 years as a computer instructor. She holds a degree in education and is a Certified Technical trainer with the Chauncey Group.

Light pastries, juice, and coffee will be served in the morning. Lunch, at one of many nearby affordable restaurants, will be on your own.

Fees and Registration

Admission Fees

The fee covers both the morning and afternoon sessions and cannot be reduced or split if a participant is interested in attending only one of the sessions.

$50 STC members with advance registration
$45 Confirmed present event volunteers with advance registration
$45 Students with advance registration
$75 Nonmembers with advance registration

Admission fees help to offset the costs of our programs. Fees may vary from program to program because of the costs of food and beverages, room rental, and other services. Our attendees pay slightly different fees depending on whether they are members, nonmembers, students, chapter volunteers, or walk-ins. We also sometimes offer a program-only option for programs that are not held in restaurants.

We cannot offer free admission to this event, as we do at other times in exchange for volunteers' help before or during the event.

Because there are a limited number of spaces for this workshop, we require all attendees to register and pay in advance.

To make a reservation, complete the online reservation form.

Registration and cancellation deadline: 5 p.m., Thursday, 10 June 2004. A check or PayPal payment by this date reserves your seat.
  • Entrance is not guaranteed until receipt of advance payment.
  • Registration will be closed at occupancy limit (17 seats are available). When capacity is reached, a notification will be provided at the top of this page. We will start a wait list at that time and you will be notified whether or not there is space available for you in the class.
  • You will receive a full refund if you cancel before June 10. To cancel, contact the Events Committee Manager.
  • We do not provide refunds for late arrivals.
  • We reserve the right to bill those who register for a program, do not pre-pay, and do not attend the program.

If you have already registered and would like to submit a payment by check or through our PayPal page, see the reservation page for more detailed information about making a payment.
