In the JavaScript session, participants will learn how to:

  • Understand JavaScript objects, methods, properties and functions
  • Create image rollovers friendly to all browsers
  • Create new windows for navigating website content
  • Create a cycling ad banner function using arrays
  • Create select-and-go navigational menus
  • Create a date stamp on an HTML page

In the XML session, participants will learn how to:

  • Create an XML document
  • Create well-formed vs. valid XML
  • Create DTDs and schemas
  • Databind XML to HTML pages
  • Search XML documents using JavaScript
  • Display XML documents using XSLT style sheets

Target audience

These workshops will introduce technical writers to the key features of each scripting language. The target audience is technical writers with beginning to intermediate knowledge of HTML.

Fees and Registration

Admission Fees

The fee covers both the morning and afternoon sessions and cannot be reduced or split if a participant is interested in attending only one of the sessions.

$50 STC members with advance registration
$45 Confirmed present event volunteers with advance registration
$45 Students with advance registration
$75 Nonmembers with advance registration

Admission fees help to offset the costs of our programs. Fees may vary from program to program because of the costs of food and beverages, room rental, and other services. Our attendees pay slightly different fees depending on whether they are members, nonmembers, students, chapter volunteers, or walk-ins. We also sometimes offer a program-only option for programs that are not held in restaurants.

We cannot offer free admission to this event, as we do at other times in exchange for volunteers' help before or during the event.

Registration

Because there are a limited number of spaces for this workshop, we require all attendees to register and pay in advance.

To make a reservation, complete the online reservation form.

Registration and cancellation deadline: 5 p.m., Thursday, 15 January 2004. A check or PayPal payment by this date reserves your seat.

  • Entrance is not guaranteed until receipt of advance payment.
  • Registration will be closed at occupancy limit (17 seats are available). When capacity is reached, a notification will be provided at the top of this page. We will start a wait list at that time and you will be notified on Monday, 19 January, whether or not there is space available for you in the class.
  • You will receive a full refund if you cancel before January 15. To cancel, contact the Events Committee Manager at .
  • No refunds will be made after the deadline or for late arrivals/no shows.

If you have already registered and would like to submit a payment by check or through our PayPal page, see the reservation page for more detailed information about making a payment.
