Topic: "Leadership Workshop and Vision Day 2002"
About the Event
Let's start our chapter year off right by coming together for a leadership workshop with Saul Carliner and a facilitated brainstorming exercise with Mary Wise. These two esteemed Society leaders, both past presidents of the Society, have a wealth of experience to share with us to help us become better chapter leaders and committee members. Saul's workshop, "Ideas for Effective, Efficient Board Interactions and Recruiting and Retaining Volunteers," is interactive and will help us identify techniques for effectively starting the Board year, efficiently managing Board meetings, effectively handling personnel challenges that might arise, and effectively planning the transition to the next Board. He will also help us handle volunteer issues by explaining techniques for recruiting volunteers, setting them up for success in their positions, and showing appropriate appreciation for their contributions. We will also learn how to handle those situations in which you cannot recruit a volunteer to handle a task.
After our lunch break, Mary Wise will break us up into small groups so that we can brainstorm together about our priorities for the year for our chapter. This "faciliated brainstorming" technique was a big success at last Year's Vision Day. The results allow us to update our 3-year strategic plan and help us to focus our efforts on the most popular activities and services for our chapter.
This information-packed day will include participants from both the Washington, DC and Baltimore chapters. Although these chapters are close to one another geographically, this day provides us with a rare opportunity to network. Be sure to RSVP so that refreshments can be ordered for you.
Don't forget your business cards for networking and books for the book drive!
