GUCPD is located in the historic Car Barn building at the "foot" of Key Bridge in Georgetown, about four blocks from the Georgetown University campus. Take the Blue or Orange line to Rosslyn Metro station.

By Bus:

Take the (DC Circulator bus).The red, black and yellow-striped DC Circulator bus links cultural, entertainment and business destinations within the city. The Dupont-Georgetown-Rosslyn line runs from the Dupont South metro station to the Rosslyn metro station, with stops along M Street. The Union Station-Georgetown line runs from Union Station to Georgetown via K Street and back to Union Station with stops on M Street traveling eastbound. The fare is $1. (You can also take the Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS) shuttle at a cost of $1 per ride. Let the driver know you want to get off at the Car Barn and he will do his best to stop there for you. If he cannot do that safely, you will be dropped off at the Leavey Center in the heart of Georgetown's campus (3700 O Street NW), a four block walk back toward Georgetown to the Car Barn.) A taxi ride from Rosslyn station to the Car Barn is another option and it is approximately $5.

By Walking:

To walk from the Metro Station (1.01 miles): Rosslyn to Key Bridge map
1. Begin at 1800 N Moore Street on N Moore Street and go North for 400 feet 0.1 miles (follow the red path on the map to the Key Bridge)
2. Turn right on 19th Street N and go East for 170 feet 0.0 miles
3. Turn left on N Lynn Street and go North for 400 feet 0.1 miles
4. Continue on US-29 and go North for 0.4 miles 0.4 miles
5. Continue on Francis Scott Key Bridge and go North for 400 feet 0.1 miles
6a. Cross M Street, and look for the Dixie Liquor store (from the Exorcist fame) — to the left of this (between the building and the gas station) are some very steep stone steps used in the Exorcist film. Climb these steps, and take a right to enter the Car Barn. Warning: these steps are very steep.
6b. —OR—
Cross M Street and turn right on M and go East about 100 feet to walk up 35th Street 0.1 miles
7. Turn left on 35th Street NW and go North for 300 feet 0.1 miles (steep street)
8. Turn left on Prospect Street NW and go West for 50 feet to 3520 Prospect Street NW 0.2 miles

By Car:

From Washington, DC:

  • From Northwest Washington: take Wisconsin Avenue south to Reservoir Road, turn right. Take the first left on 34th Street. Turn right on Prospect Street. GUCPD is 2 blocks down on your left.
  • From upper Northwest Washington: Drive down McArthur Boulevard, heading towards Georgetown. Continue down M Street, and take a left on Bank Street (between 34 and 33). Go one block and take a left onto Prospect Street. The Car Barn is three blocks down, on your left. If you continue down Prospect, there is street parking as well as a University lot parking for visitors.
  • From Rock Creek Parkway: take the exit to K Street (under the stone tunnel), which is just after the exit to Pennsylvania Avenue. Go down K street (under the Whitehurst Freeway) until you hit Wisconsin Avenue, and take a right. Take a left onto M Street, and then a right onto Bank Street (between 34 and 33). Go one block and take a left onto Prospect Street. The Car Barn is three blocks down, on your left. If you continue down Prospect, there is street parking as well as a University lot parking for visitors.
  • From Southeast Washington: take Pennsylvania Avenue West to Independence Avenue. Bear left. Take Independence to 12th Street, NW, and turn right. Take 12th Street to K Street and turn left. Follow K Street to the Whitehurst Freeway (right lanes) and get on the Freeway. From the Whitehurst Freeway, turn right onto M Street. Stay Get in left lane. Turn left on 33rd Street and left on Prospect Street. GUCPD is 4 blocks down on your left.
  • From Northeast Washington: take Rhode Island Avenue west until it feeds into M Street. Take M Street into Georgetown. Stay in right lane. Turn right on 33rd Street and left on Prospect Street. GUCPD is 4 blocks down on your left.

From Maryland:

  • From I-270: take I-270 south toward Washington. Exit Route 355 Wisconsin Avenue south to Reservoir Road. Turn right. Take your first left on 34th Street and right on Prospect Street. GUCPD is 2 blocks down on your left.
  • From I-95: take I-95 south to I-495 west to Silver Spring. Exit Route 355 Wisconsin Avenue south to Washington. Take Wisconsin Avenue south to Reservoir Road. Turn right. Take your first left on 34th Street and right on Prospect Street. GUCPD is 2 blocks down on your left.
  • From 16th Street: take 16th Street all the way to K Street. Turn right on K and follow K (under the Whitehurst Freeway) until Wisconsin Avenue, and take a right. Take a left onto M Street, and then a right onto Bank Street (between 34 and 33). Go one block and take a left onto Prospect Street. The Car Barn is three blocks down, on your left. If you continue down Prospect, there is street parking as well as a University lot parking for visitors.
  • From Baltimore-Washington Parkway or Route 50 Westbound: take B-W Parkway or Route 50 west to New York Avenue Take New York Avenue to L Street. Bear right. Turn left on 10th Street and then right on K Street. Follow K Street to Whitehurst Freeway and get on the Freeway (right lanes). From the Whitehurst Freeway, turn right onto M Street. Get in left lane. Turn left on 33rd Street and left on Prospect Street. GUCPD is 4 blocks down on your left.

From Northern Virginia:

  • From I-66: take I-66 east to the Rosslyn - Key Bridge exit. Stay in left lane and follow signs to Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge. Turn right onto M Street. Get in left lane. Turn left on 33rd Street and left on Prospect Street. GUCPD is 4 blocks down on your left.
  • From I-395: take I-395 north. Exit Washington Blvd. and follow signs to Rosslyn and Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge. Turn right onto M Street. Get in left lane. Turn left on 33rd Street and left on Prospect Street. GUCPD is 4 blocks down on your left.
  • From Route 50 Eastbound: Follow Route 50 east and take Rosslyn - Key Bridge exit. Follow signs to Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge. Turn right onto M Street. Get in left lane. Turn left on 33rd Street and left on Prospect Street. GUCPD is 4 blocks down on your left.
  • From George Washington Parkway: Take the G-W Parkway south. Exit Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge. Turn right onto M Street. Get in left lane. Turn left on 33rd Street and left on Prospect Street. GUCPD is 4 blocks down on your left.

Parking

At the end of Prospect Street is Entrance One and the main visitor parking area for University visitors. There are also several private parking lots near the intersection of M and 34th Street near Kinko's, as well as metered parking on the streets in the immediate area. Street parking is limited to two hours and is strictly enforced. Parking in Metro lots

Where to Buy a SmarTrip Card

You may purchase SmarTrip cards online from the SmarTrip Store.

Standard SmarTrip Farecard

A renewable SmarTrip farecard purchased online has a $20 fare value already on it. The cost for the renewable card is $5. The total charge for this card is $25 online.

Senior and Disabled SmarTrip Farecard

In order to purchase a discounted farecard, Senior citizens (65 and older) and persons with disabilities must have proof of age or a valid Metro Disability ID Card. For information on how to apply, see https://www.wmata.com/service/accessibility/metro-access/eligibility.cfm. Senior citizens 65 years or older with a disability and Medicare card holders with a valid photo ID are not required to apply for the Metro Disability ID card, but may purchase fare by showing proof of age at any Metro Sales location, many public libraries in the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, and Prince George's County, and retail outlets. Applications for the free WMATA Disabled ID card are available from the Office of ADA Programs at 600 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20001 or by calling 202-962-1245 or TTY 202-628-8973 or calling 202-962-1558 or TTY 202-962-2033 and requesting an application be mailed to you. A renewable SmarTrip farecard for senior (65 and older) and disabled riders purchased online has a $10 fare value already on it. The cost for the renewable card is $5. The total charge for this card is $15 online.

SmarTrip cards may also be purchased from vending machines in Metro stations but come with a lower initial fare value: $5 for the card with a $5 fare value for a total of $10 for the standard farecard. A separate vending machine allows you to add fare value up to $300 to the card.
